Bring a remarkable piece of Islamic manuscript heritage into your home with this recreated Timurid Qur’an manuscript attributed to the renowned prince and calligrapher Ibrahim Sultan.
Ibrahim Sultan (1394–1435), the grandson of Timur and governor of Shiraz, was a celebrated patron of the arts and an accomplished calligrapher. In addition to supporting scholars and artisans, he personally copied several manuscripts of the Holy Qur’an.
This manuscript was written and signed by Ibrahim Sultan himself and dated June 1427, making it an extraordinary example of royal calligraphy from the Timurid period. Historical records indicate that Ibrahim Sultan copied at least five Qur’an manuscripts and also created calligraphic inscriptions for schools he founded in Shiraz.
The pages shown here include the opening passages of the Holy Qur’an, traditionally among the most beautifully decorated pages in Islamic manuscript tradition.
This manuscript is written in an elegant naskh script, one of the most refined and widely used scripts for Qur’anic writing. The pages are framed with delicate illumination and ornamental motifs characteristic of the Timurid manuscript tradition of 15th-century Persia.
The composition reflects the balance, harmony, and devotion that defined Qur’anic calligraphy in the golden age of Islamic book arts.
This artwork has been carefully recreated from the historic manuscript while preserving the original texture and age of the document.
You may notice:
• natural paper aging
• subtle stains and marks
• ink variations
• manuscript blemishes and edge wear
These elements are not printing defects. They are part of the authentic historical character of the original Qur’an manuscript and have been intentionally preserved to honor its antique beauty.
The pages displayed here include the opening section of the Qur’an, traditionally the most revered and visually elaborate part of Qur’anic manuscripts.
These pages mark the beginning of the sacred text and symbolize:
• divine guidance
• the opening of revelation
• the spiritual beginning of the Qur’an
For centuries, Islamic calligraphers devoted special care to these opening pages, making them among the most visually stunning parts of Qur’anic manuscripts.
