Muslims have a deep affection for all of Allah's prophets. But, among all His prophets, Allah Almighty loves Muhammad ﷺ the most, and so do Muslims. Muslim wonders what a blessing it would have been to have been alive during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to have met or seen him. We all wish to see our Prophet ﷺ. But Islam outlaws the portrayal of any of Allah's prophets in art because it is agreed that no messenger's depiction can ever be perfect, which might cause disrespect.
But we all want to know how our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ looked like because we want to preserve his picture in our thoughts all the time. To solve this problem, Muslims have developed various techniques for remembering Muhammad ﷺ without using imagery. One of these methods is to describe the physical feature of Prophet ﷺ in calligraphy script in Hilya Sharif.
The Arabic term "Hilye" literally translates to "Ornament." Hilye Shareef is a Turkish kind of calligraphic art that depicts the physical appearance and behavioral attributes of the Prophet ﷺ. These physical attributes of the Prophet ﷺ were reported in detail by Al-Qadi Iyad. Moreover, the first Hilye Shareef was created by Turkish Calligraphy artist Hafiz Osman Efendi.
Hilye Shareef is often exhibited in Muslim homes. The reason is to remember our Prophet's ﷺ bodily description by heart. Though it is hard to find one, these are still the most significant artworks displayed in Muslim homes. Therefore, I have recreated one using beautiful floral designs, intricate geometric, and amazing colors with Hilye Shareef written in the center.
